Perhaps in his vision and in his initial plans, Villeneuve had more films in mind, especially the second part, and of course also the series planned for HBO Max. It pains me to say it a bit, and it might sound contradictory considering my rating, but I have to be frank, and unfortunately for Villeneuve, the source material worked against him. But visuals aren't everything, I know that, but I was hoping the book would give him enough guidelines to accomplish something magnificent. And when the images and trailer of what he had done began to circulate, needless to say, I was impressed and my trust was reinforced. In his entire career he has never made me doubt of his work. Therefore, when it was also announced that he would direct a new adaptation of Dune, I didn't doubt him at all. Even at the time I said he was too good to let Blade Runner 2049 fail, and regardless of its box office numbers, the truth is that he delivered a great film. When it was announced that Denis Villeneuve would direct the sequel to Blade Runner, there was a lot of noise. See it in theatres, even if you don't end up loving or liking the film, you won't regret it. He was able to recreate even the most intimate nuances that all of us experienced differently when reading the book. No one can ever deny that Denis Villeneuve is a true-and-true fan of the novel. Stunning visuals, and so faithful to the FEELING of the book that I even experienced something I NEVER thought I would experience again: The initial "oh, that's kind of silly and far-fetched" to the "I'm religiously invested in this world and its rules.
#DUNE MOVIE 2020 MOVIE#
If this movie was good (and it was GOOD), then the next is going to blow our minds.
It's going to be a long and painful intermission because I was ALREADY PREPARED to sit through another two to three hours of this film, and now I will have to bide my time. Then having to stand up and stretch my legs for an intermission. It was like watching the first two and a half steps of an epic: Exposition.
#DUNE MOVIE 2020 PLUS#
I sat through two hours of (essentially) the best exposition ever, plus a cataclysm. Just when I said "here it comes, I'm so, sooo ready for the next two hours of-" and it ended.
